Children at high risk need your help and support

Re 'YOUTH LINK'

Dear Mr Tim Cartrell and Mr Mark Latham,

A major crisis exists in our community for children who have to cope with a parent's mental illness. Children and young people who have a mentally ill parent basically have no support. The above organisation manages a website dedicated to the needs of these young people and we have the expertise to reach and support these hidden and isolated children most at risk.

Please find the enclosed submission, with supporting letters from major charities and organisations, entitled, YOUTH LINK.

For further information regarding the needs of children, young people and others who have a mentally ill parent please see the above organisations, internationally acclaimed, website www.vicnet.net.au/~nnaami/.

At great cost to themselves children and young people daily care for parents with mental illness. NNAAMI requires from the federal government the resources necessary to support those most at risk,

  1. Will the Labor Party and a Federal Labor Government in its first term of office, provide the resources in the enclosed 'Youth Link' submission to NNAAMI to deliver assistance to address the support needs of our members, these children, and young people at high risk?
  2. Will a Federal Labor Government and its Mental Health Branch regularly consult with NNAAMI re any issue that potentially affects children young people and others who have a mentally ill parent?

This is not a small group. One in five people experience mental illness in our community (govt stats). Potentially there are two Australian children or adult children, for every parent with mental illness, and they will vote.

We would appreciate your prompt fax reply to these serious issues, as a matter of urgency.
Please feel free to contact me on mobile ph 0407 857465 Ph /Fax 98893095 should you require any further information. We may publicise your response on our website.

We look forward to your reply. Best Wishes
Yours Sincerely

I was incredibly over protected as a child and very severely disciplined for any act that my mother perceived to be making her look bad.

somehow my dad came across this website and suggested I have a look at it. I have been reading the posts in the forum and even just the subject headings sound like they came straight out of my own life.
